How to get in Ubud
It’s quite easy to get in Ubud these days as there are so many different options. Grab a taxi or hire a scooter is probably the best way to get there. We use the Grab-app (even if the local taxis don’t like it) when we arrive at the airport to go to one of the many great places in Bali. We also use 12GO ASIA in many Asian countries to find the best local transportation.
It’s about an hour drive to Ubud from Canggu and cost about 300.000 IDR.

The best places to eat in Ubud
We love food and definitely Balinese food! When we came to Ubud the first time we tried some local dishes as Gado-Gado, Nasi Goreng, …, and every time we visit Bali, we do another cooking class, just because we love the amazing food and the local people. In this guide for the best things to do in Ubud, we made a list of the best places to eat in Ubud and they all have even vegan options.
- Lazy Cats (super cozy setting with old French interior details, overlooking terrace over the main street of Ubud)
- OIA (Greek & Mediterranean restaurant with yummy falafel plates)
- Café des Artistes (Belgian restaurant with a wonderfully relaxed setting, great wide menu with typical Belgian & French cuisine)
- Puspa’s Warung (lovely cheap, local warung with the best Gado-Gado and vegetable curries)
- Warung Biahbiah (Ubud’s most popular Warung, go early as there are always many people waiting outside trying to get a table, lots of great local food)

Mount Batur Sunrise Hike
One of our favorite things to do in Ubud Bali is definitely the Mount Batur Sunrise Hike. We love it so much that we even did it for our second time this year when friends came to visit us. You’ll need to wake up at 2 am, but the views you’ll get when you reach the top are unforgettable! The Mount Batur Sunrise Hike itself can be challenging, with some steep rocky parts at the end but doable for everyone. Be sure to wear good walking shoes as you’ll need to hike for 2-3 hours.

We highly recommend this Mount Batur Sunrise Tour which includes a light breakfast, English-speaking guide, flashlight and hotel pick up/drop off.

An experience for all the adventure seekers out there… A white water rafting trip in Bali is super fun, especially if you’re traveling with friends or family. There are mainly two rivers in Bali where you can do a white water rafting adventure, one is the Telaga Waja River and the other one is the Ayung River. We did the Ayung River which is perfect for beginners, easily accessible from Ubud but has a lot more stairs to climb. Telaga Waja River would be more challenging, adventurous, and remote.

This is such a fun thing to do and quite popular lately on Instagram. The secret behind those selfies is the guardians inside Monkey Forest who help you out by giving nuts to attract the monkeys. In the last years, the town of Ubud got more and more crowded, but in our opinion, there is still a wonderfully laidback atmosphere. Besides, it’s a shoppers paradise with lots of beautiful art galleries and boutique shops.

We recommend you to rent a scooter and drive yourself as it’s only located 45 minutes from Ubud.
